Over more than 35 years, Wörthersee has grown to become the mecca of car tuning, a ‘dubbers’ holy grail. In contrast to its early days it is now one of the worlds biggest VAG events, officially supported by Volkswagen AG. Over 100,000 people flock to the small town of Reifnitz every year, for something that has become more of a cultural celebration than just a show. Imagine that. A whole town of enthusiasts that won’t throw you a side-eye for losing your mind over that mk1 you follow on Instagram.
Tarmac vs air miles
Thanks to low-cost airlines, getting to Wörthersee couldn’t be easier. Book a flight, hire-car, hotel and you’re all set; on the lake edge sipping a Weisbier hours after boarding. So, why is it that so many decide to ditch the most efficient route to beer and schnitzel, and choose to drive?
If you’re asking yourself the same question, then you may never fully understand why. If you’re a petrol-head however, then driving to Wörthersee is almost definitely on your bucket list. Take Jeffery Li for example, who’s embarked on an epic 10,000km trip in his B2 VW Passat all the way from China!
The frantic rush to get your car ready in time. Eagerly anticipating that last-minute order of parts to arrive and the late nights fitting them. All while trying to conceive a semi-logical plan of how you’re going to get there and, of course, where you’re going to meet your mates for the convoy over. After all, it’s not really a road-trip without the whole gang.
Revo was started by a bunch of petrol-heads on a mission; to make driving more exciting than you ever thought possible. We’ve grown significantly since we started. Expanded our catalogue of products and introduced the Performance Pack – the first complete turn-key tuning solution available. There have been many changes over the years, but one thing that has remained at the core is our passion.
Revo is (and always has been) a team of car enthusiasts. There’s a culture here, a passion for tuning that we work extremely hard to nurture, protect and grow. It’s the team that connects us directly with our customers, most of us were customers before we worked here. That’s why the trip out to Wörthersee is much more than another working day, we’re excited, and can’t wait to hit the road.
When we bounced the idea of heading to Wörthersee earlier in the year, the energy in the room was electric. In hindsight, it was probably more anticipation than excitement. Who wouldn’t want to drive a 500HP Golf R and a £62,000 T6 1,000 miles? Fast-forward a few months and we’re prepared and ready for the trip – we can’t wait to get going!
500HP Golf R vs T6 Cruiser
The Golf R has been on the ramps getting a full overhaul. A fresh Revo by Alcon 380mm Big Brake Kit, a new set of RV019 lightweight wheels wrapped in Nankang AS-2+ tyres and a full check-up so she’s ready
for a thrashing on the winding mountain roads to look its best on the stand. This also has the full Revo Performance Pack fitted, as well as the infamous Revo ETR Turbo, ECU and TCU Software to suit.
We haven’t left the T6 out either. Revo Software installed giving a boost to power and torque. Definitely needed with the van fully-loaded, and a Big Brake Kit to help it stop too! The Golf R has a Milltek turbo-back sports CAT fitted. The T6 warranted a louder alternative. A particulate-back, non resonated 2.75″ stainless system, with twin velvet black oval tips to be precise. Naughty. And best of all, no annoying drone.
The most important question of all… which would you choose to drive a 1000 miles?
Keeping both vehicles looking their best on a trip like this is tough, and there’s only one choice for us. Meguiars have hooked us up with a bunch of products perfect for the 1000 mile journey. Find out more about their awesome range of products by heading over to their website.
We drive in to Reifnitz on Sunday 26th. Joining the Golf and T6 for the final leg of the trip will be Werk2 Automotive in their ‘subtle’ yellow TTRS and Revo Germany in an RS3. Meeting us there will be a crew of our international dealers on a mission to flood Wörthersee with Revo-powered cars. We’ve got guys from Germany, South Africa, Guatemala, Croatia and beyond.
Be sure to visit us at Stand 511 in the trade area behind the Gummiplatz. We’ll be easy to find, just look for the big red tents! You can get up close and personal with our latest products and find out more about the Revo Performance Pack. We’ll also be giving out limited edition t-shirts during the show so make sure you keep an eye on our social media to find out when and where!
We’re leaving the UK during the early hours of Saturday 25th May. If you’re heading to the show and you spot us, tag us in any photos using #missionworthersee. Better still, if you’re heading to the show feel free to join us. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates on the trip.
