Once a year an army of the most incredible, diverse builds assemble at the stunning Goodwood Motor Circuit. The event? Players Classic.
People from all walks of life, all age groups and genders with one common passion – cars. But not just ‘any’ cars, oh no! Players Classic is a collective of some of the rarest and most painstakingly detailed machines.
From track-dedicated monsters, 1,000bhp drag builds, classics, stance cars and all manner of things on air it’s a full-on five star assault on the senses. You can easily be excused for walking past £100,000 builds like it’s nothing, such is the level of highly-polished incredible metalwork here basking in the Summer sun.
Far from being ‘just a show’ this event is an inspiration for any petrol head. Packed full of ideas to take home and implement into your very own ‘dream build’ bank. The show rewards creativity too, with multiple highly-sought-after awards presented for a variety of different categories.
The event was already set to be great, but like all outdoor car shows the weather can literally make or break things. However, Mother Nature served up 26 degree heat, more sun exposure in one day than any doctor would recommend and the Players crew smashed it out of the park!
Our 500bhp Golf R was treated to some full-bore track sessions at the hands of Alex Bones. With our ‘daily’ 19” RV0 rims and Nankang AS-2+ tyres replaced with a fresh set of road-legal 18” Nankang AR-1s mounted on RV0 rims an additional sense of purpose is added.
The car looked mean and filled with a sense of added purpose with the new rubber sat over the top of our Revo by Alcon brake kit, 380mm discs and aggressive pads we were good to go hunting! A combo designed to deliver – and deliver it did!
Lap after lap of flat out supercar-level performance without even breaking a sweat around the incredibly fast Goodwood Motor Circuit and well within track noise limits thanks to the uber-cool Milltek quad tip system.
Holding its own on track amongst some incredibly capable builds the crowds certainly seemed to enjoy seeing the kind of performance Revo products can deliver.
Having just returned from the 1,000 mile round-trip to Worthersee (Austria) it’s fair to say our ‘R’ has had a big month. But without a hesitation she takes it in her stride.
No trailer queen here – driven everywhere and tracked in-between – the term ‘double ‘ard’ springs to mind. All of this while retaining impeccable road manners, a full interior and every creature comfort. And, of course, she’s always kept looking her best with an array of Meguiar’s gear.
The show is a two-day spectacle with track action on the Saturday only. With some of the biggest ‘players’ in the modified car scene in attendance it represents the pinnacle of UK car culture and there are even bigger plans for next year.
We caught up with event organiser and co-owner Jay McToldridge for an interview, which you can watch in the video. An exciting EXCLUSIVE reveal for the 2020 Players Classic, which will make it bigger and better than ever before! And you though this year’s was good…
