As part of a plan to diversify and expand its reach in the region, Teamwork Motorsport join the TCR Asia Series in 2016. Equipped with two brand new 2016 Volkswagen Golf Gti race cars and by signing two of the experienced drivers in Kevin Tse of Macau, Bill O’Brien of Hong Kong, the team embarks on a mission in this rising racing series.Kevin eventually won the overall 2nd in the driver’s championship.
A fresh and new global touring car racing concept, TCR is designed to be marketable, profitable, spectacular, and yet cost-effective spin-off of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). The objective of the series is to provide a strong customer racing platform and significant business opportunities to both the teams, manufacturers and great value for the drivers.
This series has attracted eight Manufacturers to start a customer program; SEAT, Volkswagen, Honda, Alfa Romeo, Opel, Ford, Peugeot, and Subaru. The latest addition to this list is Audi which has made a October announcement to join the project.
The TCR Asia Series is the latest regional derivative of the TCR International concept, which was first launched in 2015. The 2016 TCR Asia season includes a six-stop calendar that takes in many of the region’s most renowned racetracks in China, Thailand, Malaysia and Korea . Tentatively there will be a few rounds where TCR Asia will meet TCR International and the brand new TCR China series.
